9DAYS MT KILIMANGARO CLIMB VIA MACHAME ROUTE

3 Days Rewarding Gorilla Trekking Experience in Uganda

Duration

3 DAYS.

Type Of activity

MOUNTAIN CLIMBING.

Location

KILIMANJARO.

Sometimes called the Whisky Route. This is a popular route up steep paths through magnificent forests to gain a ridge leading through the moorland zones to the Shira Plateau. It then traverses beneath the glaciated precipices of the Southern Ice fields to join the Barafu Route to the summit. An extra day could be added to the itinerary, best spent on the Shira Plateau, where you could walk to the Shira Needles. Strong groups could omit camping at Karanga River. The Mweka Route is used for the descent.

Accommodation on the mountain is in tents, which the porters will pitch for you. You will need a sleeping bag, warm clothes and walking poles. This is a steep, tough trek within the limits of a fit individual used to walking in mountain areas.

Gorilla Tracking

Enjoy an early breakfast and set off to met the apes and wonders of the rainforest.

There are two populations: One is found in the Virunga volcanic mountains of Central/East Africa, within three National ParksMgahinga, in southwest UgandaVolcanoes, in northwest Rwanda; and Virunga, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The other population is found in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Mountain gorillas are descendants of ancestral monkeys and apes found in Africa and Arabia during the start of the Oligocene epoch (34–24 million years ago). The fossil record provides evidence of the hominoid primates (apes) found in east Africa approximately 22–32 million years ago. The fossil record of the area where mountain gorillas live is particularly poor and so its evolutionary history is not clear.[5]

It was about 8.8 to 12 million years ago that the group of primates who were to evolve into gorillas split from their common ancestor with humans and chimps

The fur of the mountain gorilla, often thicker and longer than that of other gorilla species, enables them to live in colder temperatures.[8] Gorillas can be identified by nose prints unique to each individual. The mountain gorilla is daytime mammals, spending most of the day eating, as large quantities of food are needed to sustain its massive bulk. It feeds in the early morning, rests during the late morning and around midday, and in the afternoon it feeds again before resting at night. Each gorilla builds a nest from surrounding vegetation to sleep in, constructing a new one every evening. Only infants sleep in the same nest as their mothers. They leave their sleeping sites when the sun rises at around 6 am, except when it is cold and overcast; then they often stay longer in their nests.

Take a photo moment and then Enjoy the rest of day relaxing after a satisfying jungle experience.
